We've All Got to Start Somewhere

Look, today's the last day you can post on Cohost. I, myself, made a final post there that doesn't say much beyond "damn, I shoulda written more," which is a pretty common refrain from me on a daily or weekly or hourly basis. I have a full-time job and it ain't one where I write, so any writing I do gets relegated to the free time that I have, which is also where I watch movies and anime, play video games, exercise, and probably spend too much time on Youtube (we all spend too much time on Youtube, I assure you). The point is that it means I don't sit down and write things, whether that be fiction or musings about the things I've watched/played/exercised1.

This is, of course, a very convenient excuse to use when I think about how there are things I wanted to write and never did, because in the end it usually comes down to the fact that I am extremely self-conscious about my own writing. I want to get over it, and so here I am again, at yet another blog that I may or may not lose interest in or forget about, doing this whole song-and-dance again somewhere else. I'd like to think that the simplistic nature of this place will encourage me to stick around, much as Cohost's straight-forward formatting and interface encouraged me to stick around, although that was more of a social network kinda deal and this is more of... a little dusty corner of the internet that I can call my own for the time being.

So this is where we'll start, or where I'll start I guess, because goodness knows that nobody's going to read most of this and it's all for the craic or for practice because hey, 39 seems like a great time to kickstart a career as a writer of things in a climate that has become exceedingly hostile to people being writers of things or creators of things in general. We'll see how it goes, I'll maybe even decide if there's going to be some kind of theme to this whole dumb experiment or if I'll tag things so that it all sorts nicely into groups or whatever. Whatever! At this point I'm going to just click the publish button to be done with it! No edits, goddammit, just post it out there!2

  1. I don't actually have a lot to say about exercise, I run roughly 7k two or three times a week and go to a gym for 30 minutes, three times a week. It's all very boring and if I really was serious about getting into shape I'd get a lot more out of not eating garbage like a desperate raccoon all the time.

  2. I mean of course I checked my spelling and grammar, I'm not a MONSTER.
